Gum Disease

Your mouth is pretty simple: there is bone, teeth are attached to the bone, and your gums cover the bone and most of the tooth. Much like cavities, gum disease is caused by bacteria. When the bacteria grow, a white, gunky, chunky layer of film forms on your teeth called Plaque. Plaque causes your gums to get swollen (Gingivitis). As your gums get swollen, they detach from the tooth, creating deeper pockets. This often causes bleeding with brushing and flossing. If the plaque deposits aren't cleaned off, they combine with minerals in your saliva and forms rock hard Tartar. Click to read more on how tartar affects your gums...

Cavities

Bacteria in our mouths eat the sugars and carbs from our diet and release acid. The acid melts the minerals in our enamel that keep our teeth strong. As we lose more and more minerals, the strong enamel turns into jelly and forms a hole in the tooth we call a cavity! Similar to leaving a hard chicken bone in a cup of vinegar. Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a fantastic tool to get you the smile you deserve. We see many people who hide their teeth and smile because they aren't happy with what they have. Whether it is because of failing dental work or just what mother nature gave you, we are here to help. In this particular case, our patient had some crowns done on her two front teeth due to an accident. Her main concern was giving her a smile she could be proud of. We changed her crowns and made her a custom color to match the neighboring teeth and now she can't stop smiling!
